From June 13th to 18th Calderstones Park hosts the 5th annual Liverpool International Tennis Tournament. With former winners including Australian Open champion Marat Safin and the Croatian world number 5 Ivan Ljubicic, who has won the event the last two years. With the tournament ending just a week before the start of Wimbledon, this is a crucial warm-up for the world’s greatest tennis tournament in the short grass court season. This year sees the added attraction of a wild-card for Jamie Murray, younger brother of British tennis’ latest superstar Andy. Unfortunately Andy is otherwise engaged with the Stella Artois championships in London but may come to support his brother if he is knocked out early! The highest ranking players currently confirmed for the event are Belgian Xavier Malisse (ranked 41) and American Vincent Spadea (74). However, the biggest draw this year could well be fan-favourite and 2001 Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, who will play an exhibition match against another former champ at SW19, Australian Pat Cash. Tickets for the event are available at www.ticketmaster.co.ukor on 0151 227 5940. Calderstones Park is located just off Menlove Avenue in L18, near to Mossley Hill Railway Station. www.liverpooltennis.co.uk/
